Yarndale 2015

Yarndale time again

Yarndale’s third year and it’s gone from strength to strength.  Great to have a proper yarn festival virtually on my doorstep.  I wish there were more throughout the year as it’s such a great event for enthusiasts.

Some of the mandala’s were on display from last year

The mandala’s looked even better this year – last year they were high up so you couldn’t really see the details but this year some of them were near the cafe area and you could get a good look – and they provided a good background for the ukelele band!

Ukelele band – they were great fun

Especially liked “These Boots are made for Walking!”

The bunting was up again!

Always makes people smile

The bunting – turning into a bit of a Yarndale tradition – more than 6000 were sent to Lucy at Attic 24 (one of the organisers) in 2013 and they’re still going strong.

Great to see peoples support

And the Flowers for Memories display was lovely.   They’ll be used to raise awareness and money for the Alzheimers Society.

There is such a variety of things to see and do – the animals are always popular.  Some of the sheep are so tame I’m sure they’re dogs in disguise.

The alpaca’s are just gorgeous.

Lucy of Attic 24 fame was hard at work in her crochet corner – here’s just a selection from her bit on Saturday.

I liked the socks garland – nice touch

There are so many different things to do and see – as someone who loves stranded colourwork I was especially keen to see Susan Crawford’s stand and the Vintage Shetland Project – can’t wait for the book to be published.

The Island Wool Company were there too with some beautiful designs.  I bought the pattern and wool to make the jumper in yellow – gorgeous isn’t it?

And Marie Wallin was there this year – her work is just fantastic – works of art in yarn.

There is such a variety of things to see – I’ll leave you with some more images of the day.  Oh and just a tip if you visit – in the morning if was very, very busy and difficult to see things properly, but by mid-afternoon the crowds really thin out and you can have a really good look round at everything.

I love this report. It was like being there all over again, without the millions of people.
It has retired my envy equilibrium after seeing all the Shetland pictures over on Instagram!
I must follow your advice and go later in the day next year.

I know – I’m glad it’s the same time as Shetland Wool week or I’d be really miserable.
